As far as highly anticipated films go, Showrunners, a documentary about the lives and work of some of Hollywood’s top writing talent, is high up on our list of must-sees. For a long time, unless your name was Joss Whedon, show runners were those geniuses who hid in dark corners while creating some of your favorite television series. The hope of the new doc from Des Doyle, Ryan Patrick McGuffey, John Wallace and John Murphy is to bring these television heavy-hitting into the spotlight and really dive deep into what it means to be a show runner.
Thanks to Deadline, we now have our first clip from the film:
For someone who lives and breathes the nuts and bolts of television, this is the kind of doc you’ve been waiting for.
The film currently has a distribution deal, but no hard date of release has been announced yet.
Hmmm, I wonder if Dan Harmon shows up on this. He’s certainly been a major part of the recent spot-lighting of show runners in the industry (for better or for worse).
