SDCC Exclusive: Gentle Giant’s Porkins Bust is Must-Have STAR WARS Swag

Alas, poor Porkins! I knew him, Threepio; a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy, and questionable piloting skills.

While Jek Tono Porkins, portrayed by the late character actor extraordinaire William Hootkins, may be gone, killed in action by an enemy turbolaser during Red Squadron’s assault on the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin, but he is most certainly not forgotten. In death, the Cult of Porkins has lead to a variety of weird YouTube tribute videos, a Family Guy parody, and theories about how he secretly destroyed the Death Star. And now, Gentle Giant is immortalizing the porcine pilot with their latest Star Wars-inspired San Diego Comic-Con exclusive: a Porkins bust.

Just wanted to thank Dan for the lovely Hamlet laugh.

  2. Christian B. says:

While I like the character and would probably buy the bust if I had a salary high enough that I wouldn’t mind blowing 150 bucks on something fivilous, I’m not a fan of the name. Sure you can get a quick giggle at the ridiculousness of it but in the end it comes off as mean and insensitive. This guy may not have been the healthiest jek out there but damn it, he had the balls to get into that fighter and try to take on something the size of an f-ing planet.

  3. TJ Heesch says:

“eject!”…uh…eject to where, Biggs?…the empty vacuum of space?

  4. Grab me one Chris and I’ll mail you a signed 8×10 of myself and 7 dollars.

Seriously? Porkins? That was his name? That’s the name Lucas chose for the guy who had to squeeze into his fighter. Literally, squeeze. I wondered why there weren’t Dipsy Doodles bouncing up and down on his belly while he jounced through turbulence. There are size limits on real fighter pilots for a reason: anyone too wide or too tall, like 6′ 2″, won’t fit into the cockpit. It’s cramped. Is the actor even alive any more? Will history remember him for nothing other than “Stay on target”? Lucas always excelled at pathetically ridiculous throw away characters. This looks like he’s stuck in a cooling vent surrounded by stormtroopers who are scratching their heads and trying not to be rude by laughing or anything. I mean, stormtroopers, love ’em or hate ’em, they were always polite. This, though? I can expect they’ll be wanting two or three bills for it and frankly, my dear, you can stick that up your own cooling vent.

  6. Joel says:

Are you sure this isn’t a Modern Family mini bust of Cam Tucker Cosplaying as Porkins. cause that straight up looks like Eric Stonestreet

  7. Jenn says:

I want that formy husband but I won’t be at SDCC so I’ll have to hopefully find it elsewhere afterwards
