We have had a lot to say about the new Neurosis album. Fires Within Fires is finally here and it is easily the best hardcore album of the year. Nothing else even comes close. In five tracks, these post-metal monsters craft the year’s biggest and most epic album. It’s filled with riffs, darks, and a subtle beauty. The mighty Steve Albini serves once again as producer (engineer, in his words) and captures a sound that is wholly one of a kind. After thirty years, Neurosis is still on top. They’re still the best and with Fires Within Fires, they prove nobody else is even in their league. [Noisey]

DEAD play some of the fuzziest tunes we’ve ever heard. They take the bass and steep it in heavy distortion. Case in point, “Turning Screws.” This track is just a sludgy beast. It’s crawls and climbs towards you, like a wounded bear soaked in the blood of it’s prey. DEAD embrace the emptiness and space, they allow their songs to wash over you and weigh you down. Holy cow, Bhavachakra is amazing. It’s hard to pin these guys down to one sound, but it’s certainly metal through and through. Thrash, black, and core–it has elements of it all. Their raw intensity is captivating. Frantic time signatures and blazing riffs fill this album to the point of bursting. We may not know how to pronounce their name, but we know we love Bhavachakra. It’s hard to believe that Husbandry is not the biggest band in the world. They’re heavy and mathy, chaos wrapped in hard rock and heavy metal. Then there’s singer, Carina Zachary. She is a freaking warrior. Her vocals turn this frantic metal into the sort of stuff that should be filling stadiums. It’s catchy and intense, like a version Mars Volta or Dillinger Escape Plan you could listen to with your mom and dad. There’s simply no denying how awesome this band is, you have to listen to them. Get into Husbandry now, because it’s only a matter of time before they blow up and take the world by storm.

If you need some good ol’ fashion punk rock in your life, check out this new tune from Tournament. It’s the kind of song that’s meant to be blasted in a crappy club. You can practically hear the breaking glass and blown out amps. Gang-style vocals and a furious rhythm make this exactly what our souls need right now. You pissed about being back in school? Missing the freedom of summer? Tournament capture that angst and fury perfectly. No frills punk is what the doctor orders and Tournament have your prescription. [CLRVYNT]

This is it, everybody. Amon Amarth have called down the thunder. Their video from “Raise Your Horns” has assembled a viking army and they’re marching to victory. It’s a punishing track from their album Jomsviking which was released earlier this year. Aside from the awesome live footage, this video features more metal superstars than you can shake a wizard’s staff at. Watch this thing and see who you can pick out.
