Wipe the blood from your teeth and get in the pit; it’s time for a recap of this week’s best hardcore, metal, and punk rock. It’s unseasonably warm out, so let’s get hot and heavy with some brutal jams. This week, we’ve got everything from grindcore to stoner rock to ’90s hardcore, so there’s a little something for everybody. Strap in, kiddies; it’s time to rock.

The seventeen year wait between albums is almost over for At The Drive In fans. To whet our appetite for the May 5th release of in·ter a·li·a,  the band has premiered another new track. “Incurably Innocent” is a remarkably straightforward At the Drive In track, a power rock number that’s sure to find favor on popular radio. While it lacks the chaotic nature of much of the band’s earlier work, it’s unmistakably At the Drive In in tone. I had the pleasure of catching the band on their recent tour and I can tell, without a doubt, these haven’t lost a step. Here’s hoping they’re back for good.

Higher Power have an old-school hardcore base that they mix with dashes of funk and soul to create a wonderfully unique concoction. Whatever you want to call this music, there’s no denying it’s a throwback to a different era. Even the video for their first single, “Can’t Relate” looks like it was filmed 25 years ago. It’s heavy, but clean and sharp. Higher Power cut right through the noise and settle into a melodic groove that will have you bobbing your head and pumping your fists. Check out the video below: it’s like time-traveling back to the days of 120 Minutes.

If the Castlevania game series had an official band, it’d be All Hell. Just look at the video for their song “Vampiric Lust.” Watching it is like taking a trip through Castlevania concept art; a barrage of creepy imagery and sultry, devilish artwork. The song is a mashup of black metal, raw punk, and gothic rock. It’s good stuff, even though they say the name of the song like 50 times during it’s two minute and forty second run time. Nightmarish and intense, All Hell are the sort of band that violent bloodsuckers are bound to love.

If you’re gonna name your band Hyborian, you better be ready to bring some serious riffage. Branding yourself with a title that invokes Conan the Barbarian means you are carrying the torch of a certain brand of metal that is not easy to pull off. Against all odds, Hyborian not only manages to live up to their grand namesake, but they also conjure metal gods like Mastodon and Red Fang. To put it simple, Hyborian is awesome and you better start paying attention to their furious riffage and crushing rhythms. These guys are gonna be huge, mark my words.

Full of Hell are the best. News broke a few days ago that they have a new album coming very, very soon. While we don’t have any songs from that album to share, it’s worth pointing out that the band released an amazing split 7 inch with Nails late last year., and it’s grindcore at its best. Punishing, relentless, and imposingly paced, Full of Hell will destroy you in less than two minutes. Take a listen below and get hyped for their new record.
