A donut chain in Texas is using our collective fear of clowns (and Pennywise from It in particular) to give their local business a bit of an unusual boost during the Halloween season. Thanks to Eater.com, we’ve learned that Hurts Donuts, located near Dallas, offered up a special two-day-only delivery service that no doubt sent anyone with clown phobia into a totally major league freakout.
For just a $10 fee, a Hurts Donuts employee would dress up like a terrifying clown and deliver a box of donuts to your doorstep, to a friend’s place, or even to your place of work. In fact, if you head on over to Hurts Donuts’ Facebook page, you can find several videos of scary clowns delivering treats to unsuspecting recipients. This special offer only lasted from September 25th and 26th, but it’s always possible they could continue it due to popular demand.
It would be safe to say that we are at a “scary clown” apex in our pop culture right now. Between all those random scary clown sightings across the country last year, these latest seasons of American Horror Story and BoJack Horseman, and of course Pennywise from the blockbuster movie It, clowns have officially moved from being anything remotely comforting or childlike to being the stuff of our collective nightmares.
Would you send a scary clown to send donuts to someone in your life scared of clowns? Be sure to let us know down below in the comments.
