Some of you might be wondering if the Square’s upcoming Kingdom Hearts 2.5 ReMix will substantially add to the bundle of beloved RPGs included in the collection. Well, probably not – these are, after all, going to be more or less the same games you’ve been playing for the last near decade and a half.
But they do look visibly improved over their PS2/handheld counterparts as you can see in the comparison video Square released this morning. From Square:
“Take an interactive journey through the fully remastered graphics of Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, available soon as part of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX on the PlayStation 3!
By interacting with the HD, COMPARE, or SD buttons at the top of the video, you can compare the games’ original graphics on the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable to the gorgeous new HD visuals. Be sure to take note of the graphical enhancements, Final Mix color palettes, and new costumes available in Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX!”
The 8-minute video (correction: actually 3 minutes, but it’s on a loop for some reason) does show some sharpened, cleaned-up textures and many of the colors do pop a lot more than their lower-res predecessors. Little details like the sparkle of the snow in the background of Christmastown from The Nightmare Before Christmas world read better.
Plus, the Christmastown segment gives us a chance to look at what appears to be one of the new costumes making their way into the remake as we switch between Donald’s Nightmare threads and a holiday getup. What do you think?
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX will be out December 2 on the PS3.
I have a problem with the redesign of the Nightmare Before Christmas looks for Donald & Goofy. I loved how dark they were in the original version.
Halloween costumes are still in. They just change to Christmas outfits when you go to Santa’s area.
Awww but I loved their SD costumes. I hope that it’s optional in 2.5
I saw my baby wearing Santa’s beard
Soooo… it’s a little bit lighter? Woo-fuckin’-hoo.
The edges are also a bit smoother
