Boy do we have something wild for your ears and eyes today: Flying Lotus has just released a sampler from his upcoming album You’re Dead, which you can view/listen to/experience below. Caution, there’s a little bit of illustrated nudity and gore in there, so consider this video NSFW.
The October 7 release will feature guest performers like Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, and Captain Murphy lending vocals to what sounds like a full-on musical freakout, accompanied by gory art, veering away from some of his previous, more downtempo work. It sounds like a little of fellow Warp affiliate Squarepusher’s work (particularly from his Hello Everything era), which is extremely exciting.
Flying Lotus released a statement about the meaning of album’s title:
âThe album isnât about the end, itâs really the beginning. Itâs a celebration of the next experience. Itâs the transition and the confusion. Itâs not âhey youâre dead.â Itâs âhey youâre dead!ââ
– Flying Lotus
If you’re wondering about the visuals, they’re from Japanese guro (gross-out violence and gore) artist Shintaro Kago, whose series Super-Conductive Brains Parataxis was serialized in Shonen Jump in Japan. But the artwork reminds me a bit of Shou Tajima’s work. You can see more of the graphic and mesmerizing work on Flying Lotus’ Tumblr.
