One of the best things about The Muppets is that they have their own band, built right in. Those folks of the Electric Mayhem can jam all day and, believe it or not, all night, especially with Animal on the skins. He’s kind of a wild man, not sure if you’ve heard. They rock when playing music by other people, and it didn’t hurt that they had the great Paul Williams writing the music they made in 1979’s The Muppet Movie, “Can You Picture That?” is one of the best songs in this or any other Muppet movie.
The Electric Mayhem are so cool, but one Muppet who isn’t anywhere near as hip as they is none other than the stately and uptight Sam the Eagle, usually there to narrate some documentary on grain or discuss why people need to sit quietly to be safe. What I’m saying is, he’s kind of boring. But not even ol’ stick-in-the-mud Sam can resist the funky bass line of Kool & the Gang’s 1973 hit “Jungle Boogie.”
Sure, at first Sam doesn’t want to keep repeating one of the easiest lines to remember in all of popular music, but soon after hearing that sweet groove, and having Dr. Teeth in his face for a good long time, he starts to really get into it. Even if it is just a Mai Tai-induced stupor, Sam finally had fun once in his silly feathered life.
