Sam Smith Will Sing The New JAMES BOND Theme in SPECTRE

In the upcoming 007 film, Spectre, Daniel Craig’s James Bond will go up against “the author of all of [his] pain.” But first, it’s time to meet the man who will perform the theme song for Spectre!

Sony and MGM have announced that British singer Sam Smith provided the opening song for Spectre, which is called “Writing’s on the Wall.” The song will be available to purchase and stream beginning on Friday, September 25.

“Writing’s on the Wall” was co-written by Smith and Jimmy Napes, and it will have the unenviable task of following Adele’s “Skyfall”, which took home an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song in addition to a Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media. Smith also has the honor of being the first British male solo artist to perform a James Bond theme song since Tom Jones sang the opening theme for Thunderball in 1965. Although some fans may point to Paul McCartney’s famous Bond theme for Live and Let Die, it was performed by McCartney with his band, Wings.

“This is one of the highlights of my career,” said Smith in a brief statement. “I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.”

Last year, Smith’s debut album, In The Lonely Hour hit #2 in the U.S. and went all the way to #1 in the United Kingdom. Smith’s most successful single to date is “Stay With Me” (pictured above), but it’s likely to be quickly surpassed by his new Bond theme.
