Here’s the first behind-the-scenes look at WGN America’s Salem, which will be the network’s first foray into scripted drama. It’s a dark, witchy take on the infamous 17th Century Salem Witch Trials, and what really might have gone down.
Looks like it’s worth a shot: It’s got a weird psychosexual angle that we haven’t really seen before, a generous helping of Game of Thrones‘ patented dirty face, and some fierce lady characters we can probably get behind. Plus it’s got a hell of a pedigree, with Brannon Braga of 24, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Voyager, and Enterprise and Adam Simon of The Haunting in Connecticut at the helm.
Salem stars Janet Montgomery as Mary Sibley, Salemâs most powerful enchantress; heartthrob of note Shane West as the war veteran John Alden â Maryâs onetime lover; Fringe’s Seth Gabel as Cotton Mather who fans the flames of Salemâs witch hunt; Ashley Madekwe (Revenge); Xander Berkeley (Nikita); Tamzin Merchant (Jane Eyre); Elise Eberle (The Astronaut Farmer); and Iddo Goldberg (Mob City).
WGN Americaâs Salem premieres Sunday, April 20 at 10e.
