We’re a mere three days, eleven hours, and some odd minutes away from the premiere of Sailor Moon Crystal, and the opening sequence to the new anime, as well as Usagi’s transformation into Sailor Moon, has been leaked online.
Thanks to YouTuber Matthew Pearl, we get a side-by-side comparison of the old and new versions of the Sailor Moon transformation sequence. Compare and contrast below, unless you’re anxious to see the new one, in which case you can skip to the 43 second mark:
Sailor Moon’s new transformation is very much in tune with the original’s. We get the Usagi/Sailor Moon hand freeze frame, the blue/green/galaxy-looking tones with the characters outline, the ribbons that magically turn into gloves and boots, and the pose of love and justice!
If that’s not enough to send your body into space, as an added bonus, we get a taste of what’s to come with Crystal‘s opening sequence below thanks to YouTuber Kuchenreich:
I don’t care if the camera’s shaky. It matches up with my excitement for the show and all the squeals in the world couldn’t compare to the amount of soaring my heart is doing right now.
The opening theme song, performed by Momoiro Clover Z, includes an awesome guitar solo and the piano rifts and female pop vocals that made the original such a classic. But the music is just the tip of what fans should get excited for. We finally get glimpses of Tuxedo Mask, Artemis, and the inner senshi performing what looks to be their special moves. July 5th needs to be right now.

I never knew the old anime was so obnoxiously loud.
It’s cool they went with the original manga animation, but sheesh did they have to make them so skinny? The when she’s transforming it really looks awkward I can’t stop staring at the legs, but ah well hopefully it works when it airs.
i like the new morphing effects but they shouldve kept the old make up song

I was soooo hoping they were not going to waste time with the transformation scenes. Even as a kid, I would just get up and walk to the kitchen to get a snack during those scenes. And I would come back, and they were STILL transforming. UGHHH….. And the new one is even LONGER. Just get to the bad guys! Bad guys are just patiently standing, watching them transform. Also, what is WITH that animation? It’s like 3-D animation just threw up on it. I really hope that’s not the finished product… -_-
The transformations are slowed down. IN reality, they are immediate.

When is the English dub releasing?!?!
They aren’t even recording it until the original run finishes, plus they’re super busy dubbing the original series atm.
