Russian Meteor Video: Here’s A Good One

You know by now about the meteor hitting Russia, and the damage and injuries therefrom. There are several videos out there of what it was like when the meteor came streaking across the sky; our own Charlene Jimenez saw this one from Russia Today and immediately declared it the best of the bunch, since it has several videos showing the meteor from all angles, whether a distant bright line across the sky or just a flash suddenly illuminating traffic. It’s all kinds of “holy crap.”

Maybe you should wear a helmet.

It has no known health side effects, and is found naturally in certain green vegetables in trace amounts which is why dieting 4 idiots supplementation is recommended.
The old clich of ‘you are what you eat’ could possibly hold some
    truth.

    /John in Ohio

When you have proverbially corrupt traffic cops, slow and ineffective judicial system and insurance companies that don’t care about their reputation, coughing up a hundred bucks for a dash cam is pretty obvious thing to do.

Cool videos is just a bonus.

  5. John in Ohio says:

I think the question everybody is overlooking is: “Why is it that the vast majority of “dash” videos come from Russia or Eastern Europe?” Are people using them to cover their ass in case of accidents or do they just hope to film another accident or instance of road rage?

  6. CJ says:

Ok, so perhaps we read the Mayan Calendar wrong … and the World ends in 2013? Earthquakes, Meteor(ite) Showers, Hurricanes – Oh My!

  7. JetpackBlues says:

The other videos I’ve seen that have the Doppler delay of the sound from the explosion and subsequent echos/fragment(s) re-breaking the sound barrier, is pants-shittingly loud and frightening.

Then windows explode and car alarms go off from the shock wave that accompanies it.

  8. Deanna says:

A meteor is a flash of light
    Caused by a falling meteorite
    It’s usually seen at night
I hope I got that answer right.

  9. SketchyTK says:

A shooting star is not a star
is not a star at all
    A shooting star’s a meteor
    that’s headed for a fall

If we aren’t doing anal I want no part in any of this hulking sky rock business.

  13. jm5150 says:

WHO CARES WHAT YOU CALL IT , stop being so damn anal

  14. Kevin says:

So…technically while it was in the air (as it is in all of the videos in this montage), it’s still a meteor. It only becomes a meteorite upon landing, so technically, in the sense of present tense being forever in a recording, it was a meteor for the purposes of the videos.

  15. KeyboardG says:

It landed so, Meteorite. Unbelievable how many science and nerd sites get this wrong.
