Good news for fans of the classic anime/manga Ghost In The Shell: DreamWorks has just made a deal with Snow White and The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders to bring the cyberpunk police drama to the big screen.
DreamWorks had already released the second anime film before being encouraged by Steven Spielberg, a personal fan of Ghost In The Shell, to make a live-action motion picture. Sanders will be taking the chair next to producers Avi Arad and Ari Arad, who are previously known for Iron Man, as well as Ghost Rider producer Steven Paul.
Ghost In The Shell went under a lot of anime fans’ radar given its age, but the source material definitely presents a lot of opportunity for a stellar showing at the box office. William Wheeler, who scripted Richard Gere’s The Hoax back in 2006, has already taken the helm on script writing duties. No release window or cast members have been announced at the current moment.

What are your picks for an alternative Motoko Kusanagi?

Well I figure since the movie has woefully been greenlight…might as well look at casting. Take a look at my list of potential actresses. Let me know what you think

NO. No, no, a thousand times, no!
Give the money to the Japanese and let them produce it, then back worldwide distribution. I say this EVERY TIME there’s an announcement about a major western studio thinking of making one of these. Live action Anime is a Japan only thing, you can’t hope to adapt/whitewash it.
Otherwise, steal the idea and call it something else, but DON’T call it GiTS. And when the fans call it derivative put on your big-boy pants, cave and agree.
I think that Keanu Reeves will be playing the major.
This is the opposite of good news.
How is this good news?
Great, another anime-derived live-action movie to avoid.
I am VERY worried about this.
