RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE Ousts GAME OF THRONES as Reddit’s Most Popular Show

It’s quite possible that when Game of Thrones returns next year, Daenerys Targaryen will finally rule all of the Seven Kingdoms. However, she has been already ousted from the throne in the Kingdom of Reddit by another fierce Queen. And nope, we’re not talking about Cersei Lannister. The fierce queen in question is none other than the legendary RuPaul.

An official Reddit blog post (via Entertainment Weekly) revealed the list of their most talked about television series of 2018, and it turns out that RuPaul’s Drag Race has taken the lead with 8.8 million unique views on the show’s subreddit throughout the calendar year. And Mama Ru did it without the assistance of any dragons, thank you. Although, some of the contestants might have dragon blood—last year’s fan favorite Shangela kept making Game of Thrones references, comparing her strategy to that of Daenerys’ plan to take back Westeros.

Of course, Thrones sits squarely in second place with 7.7 million uniques, beating out Rick and Morty at 5.9 million, Westworld at 5.7 million, and Stranger Things at 4.3 million.

While this news may be shocking to some, given Game of Thrones‘ insane level of popularity, the fandom is just as devoted and loyal for RuPaul’s Drag Race in many ways. Although the series began ten years ago as a little seen show on a minor network, it quickly became the equivalent of the NBA Playoffs for the LGBTQ community. It has since expanded its audience greatly, becoming one of VH1’s most popular series, and even inspiring two conventions each year hosting thousands of fans with RuPaul’s Drag Con. We think the 100 queens made famous by Drag Race equal Cersei any day.
