Rumor: When We’ll See Ben Affleck’s Solo BATMAN Movie

Last week, Nikki Finke dropped a major scoop DC fans have been waiting to hear for a while now, and revealed Warner Brothers’ slate of DC Comics based films for the next four years, said to be announced at Comic Con this summer. (This little bit of news has since been backed up by Kevin Smith on his Hollywood Babble-On podcast.) But among all the movies that were name dropped, one was missing… where was Ben Affleck’s solo Batman movie?? According to the Scoop-master El Mayimbe at Latino-Review, we won’t see a solo Batman movie for another five years, in 2019. And he says that even though it is years away, Warner Brothers already have a working title for the movie — The Batman. (Really, were you expecting anything else?)

So why the long wait? It’s all about scheduling, according to the report. Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice League should be ending production in December of this year, then they break for the holidays and go straight  into production on Justice League in the winter of 2015. As has been rumored for awhile now, Batman v Superman and Justice League will be filming back-to-back with director Zack Snyder at the helm. After that, Ben Affleck takes a break from the DC Cinematic Universe and in the summer of 2015, he writes, directs, and stars in his period gangster film Live By Night, which will be his follow up to the Oscar winning Argo. That’s a big deal movie for him, in many ways much more so than Batman. That movie is scheduled to hit theaters in October of 2016. It’s assumed then that filming on any solo Batman movie would take place after Live By Night, either  in 2017 or 2018. The real question is whether or not Ben Affleck is also going to write/direct his own Batman movie, which, if you ask me, is an even more exciting prospect than him starring as Batman… although I’ve gotten used to the idea of there Batfleck.

What do you think of the long wait for another solo Batman film? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
