Rumor: Jon Favreau and Matthew Vaughn in Running for STAR WARS Anthology

There was a time when the idea of a new Star Wars movie was the stuff of worried dreams, but now we’ve seen the trailers for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens and they look amazing. We’ve been sort of buzzing with the realization that there will be six more movies set in a galaxy far, far away, one per year starting this year. That’s nutso, and for any kid growing up loving the saga of lightsabers and trade disputes (probably one more than the other), it’s like Christmas.

We already know that the first interim movie is Rogue One, part of the Star Wars Anthology series (which can take place anywhere in the history of Star Wars) and will be directed by Gareth Edwards. The film details the mission to obtain the plans for the Death Star. We THOUGHT Josh Trank would be directing the film to come out in 2018, but he pulled out to make more Fantastic Four movies (or was fired depending on what you want to believe). That movie is rumored to have been the Boba Fett origin movie, but new information says it might be a little more character-heavy than that.

SchmoesKnows have heard a RUMOR that Boba Fett will indeed appear the second anthology movie. It will also have young versions of Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Lando Calrissian. That means new actors (presumably) for all three well-known characters. The briefly-seen bounty hunter Bossk, who was a much bigger character in spinoff media, allegedly will also be appearing. It sounds like this could be a rip-roaring space western with the outlaws and scoundrels needing to get away from all the bounty hunter scum. That could be pretty badass.

Many names are being bandied about for the job of directing this film, and two of them are Jon Favreau, who of course directed the first two Iron Man movies (and that space movie Zathura), and Matthew Vaughn, who has recently directly super-R-rated flicks like Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kick-Ass but who did, lest we forget, direct the delightful fantasy movie Stardust.

There’s also a rumor that the 2020 Anthology movie would be a Yoda origin story, but I can’t think of anything I’d like to see less than that, personally. Again, for the umpteenth time, these are all just rumors, but rumors that confirm or seem to confirm the rumblings of projects we’ve been hearing for awhile, so it’s possible they’re gonna happen.

Would you rather see Favreau, Vaughn, or someone else entirely take on the Star Wars western? Does a Yoda movie need to happen? Let us know in the comments below.
