Rumor: Christoph Waltz to Join BOND 24 as Villain

Since the last film in the James Bond franchise, Skyfall, the world’s been clamoring for a new 007 adventure. That said, it has been slow going since the release of the 2012 blockbuster that scored over a billion dollars at the box office (and second place for the year only behind Marvel’s Avengers). At first it wasn’t looking like previous director, Sam Mendes wasn’t going to return, but then he did, and now with his placement secured, all eyes are turning to the cast.

Beyond the returning Daniel Craig, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris and Ralph Fiennes, little else is known about who else will be involved in the film. Recently there were rumors Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista had signed on for the role of henchman, Hinx, in addition to Léa Seydoux as a new Bond girl, and now it seems we may have another major piece of casting on our hands. Thanks to Baz Bamigboye of Daily Mail (whose been on point thus far regarding all things Bond), word is Bond 24 has found another one of its key supporting players:

Considering Waltz essentially plays a Bond villain is just about everything he does, this bit of casting makes almost too much sense for the next 007 mission. While neither the tweet nor extenuating reports indicate what capacity Waltz would be appearing, we’d assume that the villain is a safe bet. He’s far too eccentric an actor to be playing anyone other than Bond’s main adversary in the film.

At the moment, we still have no idea what the plot of Bond 24 will entail, nor do we know its official title. However, with the actioner set to begin filming shortly before the end of the year so it can meet its fall 2015 release date, we expect those details to begin suring up sooner rather than later.

  1. Adele says:

I saw Inglourious Basterds at the theater 11 times. Yes, eleven. Signed poster, all sorts of goodies. Can’t wait for a new villain in Waltz. God bless Quentin Tarantino for the find.

  2. J. says:

omg this would be amazing. Waltz is just the best!

  3. The return of Blofeld or possibly Goldfinger since Waltz is German? Let’s get this reboot moving forward.

    • Doddy Bigital says:

Blofeld is definitely possible, since they’ve got the rights back. I like that casting; it’s rare that someone can do that Donald Pleasance trademark of “evil from boiled-over repression” convincingly (so much so that I actually prefer Telly Savalas as Blofeld… unpopular opinion, I know).

I was hoping they might tap Michael Shannon as a henchman. He’s gotta be one sooner or later.

    • Richard says:

      Waltz is Austrian.
