Rumor: 3 New Villains For BATMAN V SUPERMAN Revealed?

Warning: the following post contains potential spoilers for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, so consider this fair warning to retreat to your Fortress of Solitude before reading any further.

The superhero scooper sleuths at Latino Review has dropped a doozy of a scoop for geeks everywhere for the 4th of July holiday weekend- according to their sources, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is going to include three more villains, aside from the ones we already know, all straight from the comics, and one character that isn’t quite a bad guy, but is known for giving the heroes of the DC Universe a hard time in the comics as well as in various animated incarnations.

The first villain we’re said to be seeing is Victor Zsasz,  described as “A serial killer Batman fights early on in Gotham City. He usually kills with just a knife and carves a tally mark somewhere on himself for every victim.” That pretty much fits in with his character from the original comics to a tee. David Goyer apparently really likes the (somewhat) C-list Batman villain, because he also gave him a cameo, seen in court as well as an inmate in Arkham Asylum, in Batman Begins, which he also wrote. I have a hard time imagining his role in this movie being much bigger. It’s safe to say, given the title, Batman has bigger fish to fry in this movie.

The second baddie from El Mayimbe’s report is a Superman villain; If you can even call him a villain, he’s more of an annoying antagonist. Morgan Edge is described by Latino Review as “Lex Luthor’s mouth piece”, a corporate PR flack. “We meet Edge early on when he goes toe to toe with Lois Lane in a television talk show,” the report continues. “In the movie’s backstory, Edge and Luthor were members of the most notorious gangs ever to come out of Hob’s Bay.” Morgan Edge was originally introduced in the comics back in the seventies, as a media mogul who buys the Daily Planet for Galaxy Communications. In later comics, he’s  a powerful media pundit, with the show Edge of Reason, where he gives off anti-Superman spin. My bet is they’ll go with this version.

The third bad guy reveal is David Cain, described as “one of the world’s deadliest assassins, in his fifties, who meets with Luthor’s bodyguard Mercy Graves to set up an assassination.” In the comics, Cain is maybe most famous for being the father of Cassandra Cain, the second Batgirl.

Finally, it appears that we’re getting an appearance from “the Wall” herself, Amanda Waller. It looks like in this version, she’ll be introduced as “a very stern and focused senator with an intimidating presence. She doesn’t trust Superman. At all. Sees him as a threat and comes up with a counter measure that I won’t spoil.”  This version of Amanda Waller sounds very much like the version we saw in the  Justice League Unlimited animated series from a few years back, which is not a bad template to use. She will also probably not be played by Angela Bassett this time. Just a guess.

So what do you guys think? Is this just too many darn characters for one movie to handle? Or do you think these will all be glorified cameos, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will turn out just fine? Sound off in the comments below.

Speculating Waller’s counter-measure: Doomsday. Revealed, but not used in this movie. Or maybe used and that’s why B-n-S have to go from Versus to World’s Finest.

  2. Wardster_ says:

I’m a bit concerned that all this info is coming out now and we have SOOO long to wait for the movie. I sort of don’t want to know anymore.

However, I’m Batman for this all day. But can he really beat Supes in his own movie?
Yes he can, you know why? BECAUSE HE’S BATMAN

  3. Keyser Soze says:

We seen so many versions of Amanda Waller played by so many people like Angela Bassett, Cynthia Addai-Robinson and Pam Grier an they all did good jobs but they didn’t have that “Waller vibe” but after watching Sons of Anarchy I found the perfect one….C. C. H. Pounder without any comical influence she threw out a Amanda Waller presence that had me….That woman is “THE WALL”

    • Nick says:

CCH Pounder is voiced Amanda Waller in the DC Animated Universe, on Justice League Unlimited and some of the animated films.

Trigger Alert: This post may make you feel like an idiot.

A warning? On a rumor? About a movie that is in the process of being made? That we’re eventually going to see (SPOILER ALERT) trailers for? And you felt the need to warn us about spoilers? I love Nerdist, but that is pure, unadulterated idiocy … or a transparent attempt to add 30 more words to an article. You can do better.

The characters theyre adding are appropriately placed dc characters. These movies need amanda waller. She is the glue that will help connect a universe. Dc’s fury, if you like. The addition of edge is merely surrounding lex with his usual people. Also, if there is going to be an assasin in the movie it should be picked from the plethora of hired killers the dcu has to offer. The fact they pickeda lesser known in stead of deathstroke or deadshot tells he plays a small role in the story and happens to exist in the dc universe. I approve, if you are going to set in that world, go all out.

  6. Justin says:

I think it’s great. They seem to be using already established characters from the DCU that will add more credibility to the movie. Perhaps they will shop up in later films as well, which would be great. But either way there is a goldmine of characters in the DCU, might as well use them in the movies instead of anonymous Joe Blo.

  7. Chris says:

I like it.  It’s not like they’re trying to add in Brainiac and the Riddler or anything.  These guys will just help move the story along.  Here’s how I see it:  Zsasz, as cool and creepy a villain as he is, will be a semi-cameo…the bad guy Bats is chasing down when we’re first introduced to him in the film.  He’ll get sent off to Arkham and we’ll be done with him.  The blowhard news anchor guy will be, like you said, more of an annoyance.  They’ll show him on TV a couple times to hammer home the point that America doesn’t know whether to trust this super-powered alien or not. Clips of his show will lead into scenes with Amanda Waller building her task force or something.  And the assassin…I don’t imagine Luthor getting his hands dirty…he’s going to hire Cain to take out Supes (or Bats…or both) for him.  It’s not too much…..yet.  ðŸ™‚  I’m more worried about all the heroes they’re going to introduce, but I still have faith.

    • Wardster_ says:

Cain is awesome in the Batgirl comicbooks, as is she. I’m kinda hoping this movie is going to be about 7 hours long!

  8. notafanboywithbutthurt says:

Conceptually this film keeps getting sillier all the time. If they toss in another six characters no one has ever heard of, Zack Snyder can have the giant CF that will guarantee a massive teen audience.

  9. Kill Audio says:

I think it looks like a fun movie as I am a sucker for Zack Snyder films. However, for every one person who loves the movie there will be 500 fan boys who are butt hurt because they think they could have written a better script.
