Rozwell Kid’s “Wendy’s Trash Can” is Power Pop Perfection (Premiere)

Rozwell Kid have the best bio for a rock band I have ever read: “I like to think we’re the musical equivalent of a convertible PT Cruiser with flames painted down the side.” Sounds about right for the class clowns-turned-power punk wonks. And they’re about to use that souped up clown car to peel out of a parking lot and burn some serious donuts into the pavement on their excellently titled new track “Wendy’s Trash Can.”

The moment that singer Jordan Hudkins sings about his pantsless predicament–“I’m down to my underwear because I threw it all away in a Wendy’s trash can!”–Rozwell Kid’s latest single is off to an insane start, shredding a stadium-sized riff that would blow out every single window of your average suburban Wendy’s. It is yet another exceptionally catchy and smirking dose of power pop, the likes of which the West Virginian quartet have mastered over the last few years. The song is a good sign that their forthcoming record Precious Art will slay from front to back. Presumably, that is why the music video loops for 10 straight hours.

In the video for the lead track from their new record, we enter a Twilight Zoneesque (or Scary Door-esque) door in a parking lot and are thrust into several parallel universes full of costumed band members chasing us through library corridors, performing open heart surgery in an airplane hangar, and other weird scenarios that resemble a choose-your-own-adventure gone horribly wrong. The best moment, however, comes at the behest of someone dressed up like Santa Claus who simply exclaims, “Shred for me!” And god bless ’em, shred they do.

Precious Art drops on June 23 via SideOneDummy and you can preorder it right here.
