You can’t build a successful rebellion against a giant evil galactic empire with just a few fighter pilots. You need lots of willing and able people to help construct and execute a blueprint for victory, one rebellious brick at a time. That’s just what we are going to see with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story later this year, which now has its own fantastic LEGO trailer.
This trailer, which we first came across at Kotaku, is replete with actual CGI special effects. It was posted to the BrotherhoodWorkshop YouTube account, but was made by a large group of experienced LEGO animators in just three weeks. Because they clearly know how the internet works they already went ahead and made a side-by-side companion video so you can compare their LEGO version to the real trailer.
It might seem expensive to make your own CGI for a LEGO trailer, but it’s probably cheaper than blowing up your actual LEGOs. I mean, have you seen what mini replica LEGO sets cost? They’re roughly the same price as the actual things.
This really was quite the endeavor, with nine different, LEGO animators chipping in. You can watch just the VFX alone that went into it, with this additional video showing the work of Bricks Brought to Life animator Chris Gearhart.
Rogue One doesn’t come out until December 16, which means we have lots and lots of time for more fan made trailers, but the bar has already been set pretty high by these guys.
What’s the best LEGO trailer you’ve ever seen? We’re trying to build something in our comments section, so let us know what you think.
