ROBOTECH #1 Revisits the Classic Saga with All New Stories (Exclusive)

ROBOTECH #1 Revisits the Classic Saga with All New Stories (Exclusive)

The 1980s classic anime series Robotech is finally returning to the world of comic book storytelling this summer, in an all-new series from UK publisher Titan Comics. Back in the early ’80s, Harmony Gold producer Carl Macek took three separate anime series from Japan, each about the Earth confronting alien invaders, and combined them into a multi-generational epic Robotech.

But of the three separate chapters, by far the most popular one was The Macross Saga, based on the beloved Japanese series Macross. Although The Macross Saga has been revisited and retold many times in other comics and novels, this time the Macross era will be revisited with all new stories.

In July, the story continues as writer Brian Wood (Star Wars, Rebels) and artist Marco Turini bring Carl Macek’s original vision full circle. This newest comic book continuation will take into account every iteration of the series, and this new Robotech #1 casts a fresh eye over classic characters like Rick Hunter, Lisa Hayes, Lynn Minmei, Roy Fokker, Claudia Grant, and Captain Henry Gloval. Brian Wood and Marco Turini take us back to a Macross Island where *nothing* can be taken for granted.

You can see a special preview of the first 5 pages from the issue #1 down below in our gallery, which gives us our first glimpse of the comic book versions of the massive fleet of the alien race the Zentraedi. The giant mercenary aliens are sent to Earth to recover their lost ship the SDF-1, resulting in the first of several Robotech wars. You can also check out several different versions of the cover for the first issue as well. Robotech #1 goes on sale at comic stores everywhere on July 26.

Was Robotech your gateway into the world of anime like it was for so many of us? Be sure to share your Robotech memories with us down below in the comments.
