Meet the New Lead Singer of Compressorhead, a Metal Band Made of Robots

I am constantly amazed at what robots can do nowadays. Take, for instance, this all-robotic metal band (that pun had to be intentional), wherein the mechanical musicians actually play real instruments, including an electric guitar, a bass guitar, and drums. Compressorhead, as the band is known, made its debut back in 2013, and has even released a full album (via Geekologie).

The band’s original line-up, which included robots named Stickboy, Junior, Fingers, and Bones, was built between 2007 and 2012. In 2013, the band’s creator Frank Barnes approached Canadian punk musician John Wright of the bands Nomeansno and The Hanson Brothers for a collaboration. Since then, Wright has become the “musical director” of the group, and has helped them release two original songs so far.

In 2015, Compressorhead launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to build their lead singer, Mega-Wattson, who is voiced by Wright. Now their new frontman is part of the show, and we think he does a pretty good job.

The whole thing has a hardcore animatronic children’s band vibe, which is cool, but also leaves us hoping this doesn’t turn into a punk version of Five Nights at Freddie’s. We probably won’t be attending a show to find out, but we will be looking forward to seeing what else they put out in the future. Keep rocking, you funky metal men.

What do you think? Are we looking at a complete robotic takeover of the music industry? Let us know in the comments below!
