Roberto Orci’s MATADOR Gets Premiere Date on El Rey Network

Matador, the second scripted series from Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey Network, has been set to premiere on Tuesday, July 15 at 9/8c. The series was created by Roberto Orci, best known for the Transformers and Star Trek movies, with Andrew Orci and show runners Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie. The first episode was directed by Robert Rodriguez.

Starring an international cast, including Gabriel Luna in the title role, Alfred Molina, Nicky Whelan, and Neil Hopkins, Matador tells the story of, according to the network, “the unlikely rise of Tony ‘Matador’ Bravo, a popular soccer star who comes to be known as much for his playboy antics off the field as his dynamic moves on it. But what his fans and family don’t realize is that it’s all a cover – in truth, he is a skilled covert operative executing missions for a little-known branch of the CIA.”

The series will have a thirteen episode run on the El Rey Network, founded by filmmaker Robert Rodriguez. El Rey is home to From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series, which has already been picked up for a second season, and the interview series The Director’s Chair, premiering this Saturday. The first episode of The Director’s Chair features a conversation between filmmakers Rodriguez and horror legend John Carpenter. El Rey recently also announced the unscripted series Cutting Crew, about noted Philadelphia barber Amit Corso.

Matador makes its debut Tuesday, July 15 on the El Rey Network.
