Robert Orci Has Left THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Franchise

Back in April, it was reported Hollywood star writing/producing duo Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci split on all future film projects, but that anything they were already signed for would remain with both of them attached. However, since the announcement, the two have been busy taking on individual projects, Orci in particular. Thus far, the writer’s been the top of the rumor list for director on Star Trek 3 as J.J. Abrams is busy with Star Wars, and he’s also hard at work on Matador, his series for Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey. So, with all that big stuff happening or rumored to be, where does that leave the man’s existing projects? Well, for one of them, it seems Orci has decided to just leave it behind.

In an interview with IGN, Orci stated the following about his work on Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man, “I don’t know what their plans are for that franchise,” adding, when asked about The Amazing Spider-Man 3, “[I’m] not officially involved in it.”

While an interesting turn of events, it’s not a surprising one since, according to the interview, there’s currently no firm schedule for the upcoming films on the docket for The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. In addition to the trilogy completion, Sony also has films in the works for The Sinister Six and Venom, so in an attempt to pull a Marvel with a single IP, it seems TASM 3 is being put on the back burner for now, and Orci doesn’t have the time to stick around and wait for decisions to be made.

Are you heartbroken by Orci’s announcement? What do you think this will mean for the future of the Amazing Spider-Man saga? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. Yes! Orci can focus on ruining Star Trek and leave Spidey alone.

  2. Robert Orci IS directing Star Trek 3, he’s not rumored anymore.

  3. aledilltud says:

There’s a part of me that wants this franchise to die so that Disney can buy it cheap and have Spider-Man movies that have a solid beginning, middle and end.

  4. EricGibbs4 says:

GOOD.  They spent way too much time trying to set-up a franchise and not enough time making a good movie.

  5. Louis says:

I don’t want to believe it. This iteration of Spider-man is really cool. And I look forward to another. I really hope it keeps it’s feel and story. I hope Spider-man’s movie rights can go back to Marvel at some point. I’d really love some crossovers. >_>

  6. Harris says:

    Dear Sony,

Please give Spider-Man back to Marvel! He deserves to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and to stand along side Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America. NOW!

    • Dustin says:

News flash: corporations don’t just “give away” their biggest money makers. Not for any reason, and certainly not for what people think a fictional character “deserves”. The only way Marvel’s EVER going to get Spider-Man back is if they make some huge offer to buy Sony out, or if they wait for the popularity of superhero movies to die out to the point where they no longer make money, but the latter obviously wouldn’t help them and won’t be happening any time soon.

  7. Tara Sue says:

Other than hoping  the last X-Men was not a fluke, I’m not excited about anything something something does with Marvel.

  8. James Clark says:

This is a great  sign, this franchise needs a lot of work.  Eliminate the whole convoluted/uninteresting parent angle and scale back the villains a tad – I’d rather it take 4-5 films to hit the SInister 6 successfully than to take 3 and it be rushed/terrible.
