At some point, The Walking Dead will have to come to an end. Maybe someone will find a cure, or Rick will finally meet his end, or some truly out of left field thing could happen to bring the zombie saga to a close. If you’re worried that the series will just kind of taper out, creator Robert Kirkman promises that he knows its ending (at least in the comics).
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the writer and producer says that even if The Walking Dead on TV series might run indefinitely (âLuckily, because of the comic book series, this isnât a show where weâre going to run out of ideas,â he told the site), he knows what the final page of the final issue of the comic incarnation will look like.
While he wouldn’t be pinned down to a specific finish date for the comic (which has been in continuous publication for over a decade now), Kirkman says he’s known for a couple of years how it’s going to end.
âI do know what Iâm building toward, yes,â Kirkman told Entertainment Weekly. âI donât know exactly what issue thatâs going to fall on, per se, and I do have a lot of road laid out before that that is going to take a long time, but I certainly know exactly what Iâm building to.â
So a writer says that he knows how his story’s going to end? What’s the big deal with this post? The news that Kirkman has an end in sight – however far down the line – comes as a relief to this comics fan. Looking at one of the recent issues of the series, I wondered how much longer Kirkman could keep us in this world. In a lot of ways, recent changes in the series have felt like it was building towards a conclusion, (although that’s clearly not the case).
Still, Kirkman says the end isn’t too far off:
“About a year or two ago, I finally nailed down exactly what I want the ending to be. So now Iâve kind of got two trails of story going in my head. One working to where Iâm at very far into the future, and one working from the end backwards. When those two stories meet, then Iâll know exactly how long the story is. Iâm rapidly approaching that point.â
The fifth season of The Walking Dead airs October 12 on AMC.

It has to be a happy ending show,,,cause I’m tired of seeing all my favorite people die
I thought it could be that the final episode is Daryl,Micchone (possibly Gabriel) and a grown up Carl and Judith in a new world. They are at a graveyard of everyone that was with them throughout the adventure, but they are standing around the grave of Rick, and the whole episode is basic a recap of how everyone died and how it all went down over the years. But the final 15 minutes or so is how Rick met his end,and how the world got to be the way it is now
it’s going to end with Rick walking into a room and seeing an autistic Carl staring at a snow-globe of a cemetery. it’s all been one, long daydream…
Carl is Tommy Westphall?
yes. it all takes place in the “Carl Grimes Universe”…same universe where Dale runs a small bait and tackle shop where zany misadventures take place and Andrea and Michonne run a modeling agency out of Chicago 🙂
Yep carl is tommy Westphall…NO HE ISNT HE IS CHANDLER RIGGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It could end with Rick waking from his coma and the other characters could be part of the hospital staff, patients and visitors. Kinda like Wizard of OZ ( and you were there and you and you etc.)
