At the beginning of The Flashâs second season, Ronnie Raymond (Robbie Amell) â one half of Firestorm â seemingly sacrificed himself to save Central City and was lost to a singularity. But when has death ever stopped anyone from coming back to a superhero TV show?
The CW has confirmed that Amell will reprise his role as Ronnie Raymond later this season on The Flash, but there is a major twist involved. Consider this your spoiler warning! Stop reading now if you donât want the details!
Amellâs return still leaves the fate of Ronnie Raymond up in the air. Instead of playing the heroic Ronnie who was a part of Firestorm, Amell will now portray the villainous Deathstorm from Earth-2.
âWe are beyond excited to have Robbie back on The Flash,â explained executive producer Andrew Kreisberg in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. âYou canât keep a good Firestorm down. Only this time, heâs back with a twist, a deadly Earth-Two version of our beloved Ronnie in the form of Deathstorm.â
Hereâs what Deathstorm looks like in the comics.
Deathstorm was actually the real Ronnie Raymond in DCâs Blackest Night crossover event, when his dead body was reanimated by a Black Lantern ring. Deathstorm was later revived as a separate character. More recently, a version of Deathstorm was introduced as part of the Crime Syndicate from Earth-3 in DCâs New 52.
Itâs been widely hinted that Danielle Panakerâs Caitlin Snow will also be evil on Earth-2. Caitlin Snow is the counterpart for the Firestorm villainess Killer Frost, but on The Flashâs Earth-1, Caitlin and Ronnie were engaged and later married. It remains to be seen if the Earth-2 incarnations of Ronnie and Caitlin will have a relationship.
The Flash Season 2 will resume on Tuesday, January 19.
