Robbie Amell Wants to Star in BATMAN BEYOND Movie

Robbie Amell has been acting professionally for a decade and he’s already got two superhero roles on his resume: Stephen Jameson on The Tomorrow People and Ronnie Raymond, alias Firestorm, on The Flash. But there is at least one more superhero role that Amell wants to play.

At this weekend’s Salt Lake City Comic Con, Amell fielded a question about whether he would like to portray Terry McGinnis in a potential Batman Beyond movie. “I am a huge fan of that idea,” replied Amell. “I think the problem is because they have Batman going on right now, they won’t make the Batman Beyond movie until I’m too old to be Terry McGinnis. By then I’ll probably be the old, crusty Batman. But I’m a huge fan of that idea.”

It should be noted that at 27, Amell might already be too old to play high school student Terry McGinnis. But perhaps if McGinnis was changed to a graduate student, then Amell would still have a decent shot…if Batman Beyond was still a movie that Warner Bros. wanted to make.

Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Alan Burnett created the Batman Beyond animated series in 1999, and they introduced McGinnis as the new Batman of the future under the tutelage of an elderly Bruce Wayne. Director Boaz Yakin reportedly pitched a Batman Beyond live-action adaptation back in 2000. But so far, Batman Beyond has remained untouched outside of the animated realm and DC’s comic books.

“I think [Batman Beyond] would be a great property,” continued Amell. “I think the smartest idea for them would be to make it like a $30 million movie. Don’t do like a $200 million blockbuster, do a dark, gritty version of Batman Beyond. The visual effects have come so far that you don’t need $200 million to show the technology that they have. Make it a nice, grounded character piece. But I don’t run studios, so that means nothing.”

While it’s unclear if Amell will make any appearances on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, he is slated to appear in the season 2 premiere of The Flash and the upcoming revival of The X-Files, not as Firestorm, of course.
