Richard Griffiths, the great British character actor, died Thursday at 65 of complications after heart surgery, and you may know him best from the Harry Potter movies, in which he played nasty Uncle Vernon. You may also remember him from countless movie, stage, and TV appearances, including The History Boys (for which he won a Tony), Naked Gun 2 1/2, the stage revival of Equus (alongside Daniel Radcliffe), and many more, and you may know that he was rumored to be a candidate to be the Fifth Doctor.
But, to me, he will always be Uncle Monty in one of my favorite films ever, Withnail and I:
He made a pretty great uncle, evil or otherwise.
