RIP Don Cornelius

The only time I feel my age is when icons from my childhood pass on.  Today, Don Cornelius, the creator and host of Soul Train, died.  I remember many Saturday afternoons watching cartoons, Creature Double Feature, and Soul Train.  Soul Train was a large part of my musical development.  It also taught me cool dance moves; these moves have served me very well in marching.

Soul Train was a very important show for mainstream culture as well as music.  Don Cornelius was a genius!

Thank you Don Cornelius for the years of Soul Train.   …and as always in parting, we wish you love, peace… and SOUL.

  1. This show really needs to come back! It really was very cool.

I’m glad you liked the article!

    Great post!

What I want to know is: Why isn’t this show on the air these days?
The fashions are slowly coming back. 60s-80s is showing up in the Malls. The music? Classic Soul music NEVER gets old.
I hope someone brings this show back. Not as some dodgy ‘re-boot’. The Original Soul Train in all of it’s big Afro, bell bottom, hot pants, shiny shirts, platform shoes, classic soul music glory.
(And with Elton John throwing down ‘Bennie & the Jets’!)
