RICK AND MORTY and DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS Will Cross Over in New Comic

It may be quite some time before Rick and Morty returns for a fourth season on Adult Swim, but fans of the mad scientist and his anxious grandson won’t have to wait long for a new adventure. This summer, Rick and Morty are rolling for initiative in a crossover comic book miniseries with Dungeons and Dragons.

Oni Press and IDW are co-publishing Rick and Morty vs. Dungeons & Dragons, a new event series that finds the titular duo wrapped up in a deadly fantasy adventure. In this story, Morty will come to Rick for help understanding D&D when it takes his high school by storm. Unfortunately for Morty, he and the rest of his family will end up in an alternate realm where D&D is all too real. The first cover image has been released, and it features Rick with D&D‘s signature 20-sided dice while Morty is enveloped by green slime.

The monster behind Rick and Morty is a Beholder, one of the most iconic creatures in Dungeons and Dragons. It’s probably not the only famous monster slated to appear in this miniseries, either, and if we had to guess, we would also predict that Rick and Morty may visit a few famous D&D locations. Who’s up for a side trip to Baldur’s Gate or Ravenloft?

Fantasy novelist Patrick Rothfuss and Jim Zub are co-writing this miniseries, with Troy Little attached as the primary artist. The first issue of Rick and Morty vs. Dungeons & Dragons will debut in August 2018.
