If you happened to see Marvel Studiosâ Ant-Man this weekend, then you probably caught Stan Leeâs hilarious cameo in the film. Itâs become a Marvel tradition for Lee to pop-up in any film or TV adaptation of a Marvel property, even if itâs one that he didnât create!
However, the list of Marvel characters that Lee did co-create is immense. Along with artists Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and several others, Lee is responsible for Spider-Man, Hulk, the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Daredevil, Ant-Man, Iron Man, and numerous icons of the Marvel Universe as we know it.
At 92, Lee is one of the last living legends in comics, but heâs made a second career out of his Hollywood cameo appearances. Lee has shown up in movies for Marvel Studios, Sony, and Fox. This even gave rise to fan theories that Lee was playing The Watcher (another one of his co-creations). But since one of the recurring characteristics of Leeâs Marvel appearances is that heâs not paying attention to whatâs happening around him, we can probably debunk that theory.
A new infographic has been created that charts Leeâs appearances in 16 Marvel adaptations, dating back to his cameo on the jury in The Trial of The Incredible Hulk TV movie from 1989 and it concludes with Leeâs cameo in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The infograph does not include Leeâs appearances in Ant-Man, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, or Leeâs cameos on Marvelâs animated TV series. Seriously though, does anyone else remember the time that cartoon Stan Lee hit on Madame Web (who was voiced by his wife, Joan Lee) on the Spider-Man animated series from the â90s?
Comic book movie fans, itâs time to pick your favorite Stan Lee Marvel cameo! And perhaps youâll get one of Marvelâs infamous No-prizes if you use our comment section to share a working theory about how they all fit together!
Excelsior!
