Report: Telltale Working on a GAME OF THRONES Game

When Kanye West impelled us to “Watch the Throne,” chances are he wasn’t talking about George R.R. Martin’s now-seminal A Song of Ice and Fire series, better known to the millions of fans of the world as Game of Thrones. Fortunately for us, it seems that Telltale Games took his advice to heart, as rumors are circulating that the company is developing a game based on Game of Thrones. Given how they’ve handled Bill Willingham’s Fables in The Wolf Among Us and Robert Kirkman’s apocalyptic epic in The Walking Dead, I think they’d be more than up to the task, especially with a franchise that’s so rife with intrigue, betrayal, and all manner of Machiavellian manipulations.

Although IGN is reporting that multiple sources have confirmed the project is in development, Telltale has been less forthcoming. In a statement to IGN, SVP of Publishing Steve Allison said, “We get these sorts of rumors about what we could be working on next cropping up all the time. Officially we have no comment.” When pressed for comment, local child-carrying oaf Hodor had this to say: “Hodor.” Always playing hard to get, that one.

Telltale has its plate quite full at the moment with The Wolf Among Us – Episode 2 and The Walking Dead: Season 2, but CEO Dan Connors revealed in a recent Reddit Q&A that they are “working on a few licenses that definitely fall into our dream IP scenario and we can’t wait to announce those.” Here’s hoping that bringing adventure gaming to Westeros is high up on that list.

Whether it happens or not, Telltale wouldn’t be the first company to try to bring the wild world of Westeros to the video gaming sphere. Bigpoint’s Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms offered up a browser-based MMO, Atlus gave us a Game of Thrones RPG, and Focus Home Interactive brought us the Game of Thrones: Genesis strategy game.

More importantly, you should go out and buy Fantasy Flight Games’ truly phenomenal Game of Thrones board game that plays a bit like Risk on bath salts (in a good way). I’ve spent countless hours wiling away the day playing that game, locked in a bloody battle for control of King’s Landing, and I cannot recommend it enough. At least until Telltale comes out with their version.

Am I the only one who has zero interest in games by telltale? or adventure games in general?

  2. Pete says:

They should just call it… “Thrones”.
