Report: Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones in Talks for GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot

Update: Editor in Chief Brian Walton and Managing Editor Rachel Heine (hey, that’s me!) weigh in on the potential new cast:

Stop speculating, fellow specter-hunters. It appears we have our all-female Ghostbusters cast, and it’s one hell of an SNL reunion. Melissa McCarthy has supposedly been in talks to join the Paul Feig-directed reboot for some time, and The Hollywood Reporter is reporting (heh) that she has officially signed on. The big news? Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones are all in negotiations to don the iconic Ghostbusters’ suits as well.

We already know McCarthy, Wiig, and Feig are a killer combo from 2011’s Bridesmaids, but the addition of McKinnon and Jones is pretty inspired. They’ve got the wacky physical comedy bit down, have amazing chemistry together, and can each bring something different to the table. Kate McKinnon is hands down one of the strongest players on Saturday Night Live right now, and though Jones is a relatively new addition to the cast, she has breathed new life and energy into a somewhat tumultuous season.

Though we wish there were more original female-led comedies out there, we are thrilled to see some ass-kicking, poltergeist-punching ladies take over.

But what do you think of the news? Are you sad Emma Stone didn’t make the cut, or are you happy to see McCarthy, Wiig, McKinnon, and Jones as the famous four? Let us know in the comments below.

Oh no, Leslie Jones (the impersination of “Black-face”)!!! Enough of her already! She is so fucking bad. Somebody had to throw a race-card with her name on it… Get rid of her and the movie could get good

  2. Mark says:

God Bless Melissa McCarthy, but I just don’t think she’s funny at all. She was fine in ‘The Life of David Gayle’, but all of these movies lately where she just plays a stupid girl is dumb. Brides Maids was Ok, everything else stank.

  3. MBarnard says:

I think its pandering to political correctness and nothing more. It is sad that creativity in Hollywood is so f*cking thin that they have to reboot classic after classic.  🙁

  4. sARAH says:

GREAT CAST!!!!  I TRULY HOPE THIS HAPPENS!!!

  5. GB says:

Cast seems pretty strong, though I’m a bit tired of McCarthy’s one-dimensional style

  6. Matt says:

They should get either Emma Stone or Aaron Paul to play the Janine character. Or just go nuts and get Goldblum to do it. Oh and can we please get Rick Moranis to have a cameo? He’s awesome.

  7. Mike says:

no Melissa McCarthy. Get Emma Stone. Please!!!!She even auditioned for it in Zombie Land.

  8. Jared says:

MELISSA MCCARTHY! the movies going to be bad already all she dose is make fat jokes about herself

  9. Kevin says:

Nobody wants this movie but they’re all too afraid to speak up because they’re afraid the feminists will get after them. It’s just like the new Annie movie. If the original cast couldn’t even make a good sequel, then it is a sign that the movie should be left alone. I’m not being sexist here, just a fan of Ghostbusters.

  10. Zappo23 says:

This is going to be so bad…

  11. CaptainOptimist says:

So, it’s going to be filled with toilet humor and McCarthy’s typical “being overtly sexual AND fat is funny” shtick. Woo.

  12. Saunya says:

I would have liked to see Rebel Wilson in the cast. She said there was a meeting, but she must not have made the final cut. She would have been hilarious!!

  13. Johno says:

    Please, please, please…no Melissa McCarthy.

  14. Audie says:

Sounds fantastic! I hope Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd have some sort of role.

  15. Sydney says:

Great cast and a wonderful chance for people to see just how good Kate McKinnon is.

  16. Kevster says:

Would’ve liked to have seen Emma Stone in it, but this cast sounds great.

  17. Robert says:

That will be an amazing cast if it plays out.
