“Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good life insurance policy at your side. That’s why I chose Coruscant Colonial Life Insurance.”
– Han Solo, Star Wars: Episode VII probably
All the rumors swirling about a young Han Solo movie and who might play him are well and good, but El Mayimbe over at Latino-Review used his Jedi mind tricks to ferret out a juicy detail about the much-anticipated J.J. Abrams-directed Star Wars: Episode VII: Harrison Ford will be returning to reprise his role as “Han Solo.” Obviously, the extent of the character’s involvement isn’t known at this time and while, back in November, Ford said he was open to returning, the news comes as a bit of a surprise considering how ardently he has tried to distance himself from the franchise in the past. That being said – this might be the most exciting tidbit I’ve seen yet. Here’s hoping that Ford’s involvement will be more than turning Han and Chewie into Murtaugh and Riggs, complaining about how they’re getting too old for this shit and, back in their day, they used to make the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs, uphill both ways.
Are you excited to see Harrison Ford pick up the blaster again? Quemment below and let us know.
I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt would make an awesome Han Solo… ya know.. just sayin š
Also, George Lucas actually DID incorporate the EU: Coruscant, Kashyyyk, swoop bikes, the Outrider, Aayla Secura, Quinlan Vos…
No reason others can’t.
Seriously? I never intended to list them all for you; it was just an example. If I were counting, obviously that wouldn’t be reasonable.
Point is, there are simple things that can be done with a story to ALLOW for an explanation, without having to actually incorporate the EU plots themselves. As it is, where the book chronology ends, Han is in his early 70’s… and Harrison Ford is 70. The canvas is almost completely blank, and it won’t take much to make the story fit… meaning that it would be a severely missed opportunity not to.
How many retcons are they allowed? If it is just Chewie that is not a very reasonable expectation.. At least in my opinion
You’re just not understanding difference between “Please reference the Thrawn trilogy and require that people read the books!” versus “Please don’t needlessly override minor, impertinent details!”
There’s a BIG difference, and “they” might not be asking for something as unreasonable as what you presume “they” are asking for.
“Dickwad” because it’s generally rather rude to refer to a group as “they” while members of that group are posting here, and you seem to be responding to “them,” despite the fact that your claims had already been refuted before you even made them…
I won’t start hurling insults at JJ; I’ll simply be disappointed if the many years I’ve spent reading Star Wars stories are blatantly or needlessly rendered false, especially considering that hundreds of books and comics have managed to keep to one continuity and still tell some awesome stories.
Let me give you an example: if they give the Solos a daughter, and her story is exactly like that of Jaina Solo, but her NAME isn’t Jaina, I will be disappointed. They don’t have to mention her dead siblings, or anything else… but if they disregard simple facts which don’t matter either way, that’s just wasteful, sloppy story construction, and it would be an insult to what has come before.
I even JUST said that if Chewie’s still alive, I’m fine with that retcon. I, for one, have stated a pretty reasonable set of expectations… but if I’m just a part of “those c-canon people,” then obviously the words I say as an individual don’t matter, and I’ll be reduced to a stereotype.
Canon, damn it.. š
