Star Wars has seemingly invaded every aspect of pop culture over the past thirty-five years, and it’s about to invade one more, as electronic duo Daft Punk plan on donning Imperial Stormtrooper helmets at the Grammy Awards this weekend, in place of their usual space age head pieces. According to The Hollywood Reporter, rehearsals for the 56th annual Grammy Awards are going on right now at various locations around Los Angeles, which means details are starting to emerge about this Sunday’s performances… including just what everyone is going to be wearing onstage.
The French DJ duo will rock the classic white helmets for their performance, which they will share with Stevie Wonder, Pharrell Williams, and Nile Rodgers. The disco revival will run through a medley of songs that include snippets of Wonder’s “I Wish,” Chic’s “Le Freak,” and Daft Punk’s 2013 mega-hit “Get Lucky.” Also planned is a segue to Daft Punk’s “Lose Yourself to Dance.” The duo are up for four Grammy Awards, while their album Random Access Memories is also nominated for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. No world yet on if any of the other performers they are playing with are playing any Star Wars characters, but if Stevie Wonder rocks Lando’s pimp cape, this will officially be the coolest thing ever.
Yeah, it didn’t happen during the performance…major bummer — I was sooooooooo hoping it would happen!
However, Club Jade’s little blurb about it does have a link to a photo from Daft Punk’s soundcheck –> http://clubjade.net/?p=57148
