Depite years and years of refusing to cooperate in any revival of the Ghostbusters franchise past the second film, and despite producer Dan Aykroyd’s best efforts to get him involved in a potential third movie, it appears that Bill Murray will now have some kind of role in the Ghostbusters reboot after all. Bill Murray was once so against appearing in a third film that he (allegedly) sent a Ghostbusters III script back to the producers in pieces. Not sure if that’s true, but I do love that story.
What kind of role Murray will have is still unknown; are we talking just a walk-on cameo, or is this an actual role? Dan Aykroyd himself is already confirmed for a cameo role, and announced his participation on social media, while on the set a little less than a month ago. Aykroyd said he did his cameo acting alongside star Kristen Wiig, and giving his praises to the director and cast.
One thing Ghostbusters fans shouldn’t be expecting is either Bill Murray or Dan Aykroyd to be playing their roles of Peter Venkmen and Ray Stantz. This new Ghostbusters film is not supposed to be in any way a follow up to the original two films, and is set in a world where proof of the existence of ghosts and supernatural is a brand new phenomenon, and New York City has never had a giant Marshmellow Man or the Statue of Liberty walk down Central Park West.
Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters film, which is currently shooting, stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth, and is set to hit movie theaters on July 22, 2016.
