Report: ASSASSIN’S CREED: UNITY Revealed Through Leaked Screenshots

Can’t get enough historical parkour and murdering corrupt figures across the ages in your life? Well, you’ll be pleased to know that Kotaku has acquired screenshots of the rumored Assassin’s Creed game coming this fall codenamed Unity, which is said to be set during the French Revolution in 18th century Paris and follow an assassin named Arno.

Rumors began swirling about the new game(s) a few weeks ago on gaming forum NeoGAF and were since verified by Examiner.com’s Nicholas Gigante, who has had a solid track record with Ubisoft-related rumors in the past, but these screenshots lend even more credence to the news. While they are early screenshots of a clearly unfinished game, it is still an interesting first look at the next iteration in the iconic franchise. In the screenshots, sent to Kotaku by what the site terms a well-connected anonymous source, you get a first glimpse of 18th century Paris, the Seine River, Notre Dame, and more famous landmarks from around the City of Lights. I just hope there’s a “let them eat cake” moment followed by a cake-eating mini-game.

This might not be the only Assassin’s Creed coming your way this fall; it’s one of two slated to be coming out later this year, according to a number of inside sources. One, Unity, will be targeted for current-gen consoles like Xbox One and PS4, and another game, codenamed Comet, will be released for Xbox 360 and PS3. No word yet on whether the games will come to PC or Wii U, but I’d say the former is likelier than the latter. Honestly, though, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Comet will finally take the assassination action into the far reaches of space, because how sweet would it be to prevent Templars from trying to kill Neil Armstrong on the moon?

Some have already ripped into Ubisoft for essentially annualizing the Assassin’s Creed franchise and milking it for all its worth by pumping out games year after year, but it’s intriguing that they’re splitting up the development by current-gen and last-gen, which will hopefully make for more compelling products across the board and lead to less design compromises as a result of having to program for so many concurrent platforms. In any event, it’s no small secret that more Assassin’s Creed games are in our immediate future, so let’s try to take a glass half-full approach and hope for the best, shall we?

  2. erica rosa says:

I think that this new game are very much better than the others…XD

  3. erica rosa says:

Hm….I can’t imaginate who the new protagonist are. …

  4. aDeLFrost says:

It’s aveline de grandpre the female protagonist you’re talking about i guess.
and it’s AC liberation they out it on PC and it’s not the other game they’re talking about.

  5. aDeLFrost says:

the graphics looks not so special but the trailer I’ve seen it says it’s actual gamplay alpha footage and it LOOKS WAY awesome than any graphics ingame i’ve ever seen , it’s unity or the other game title they’ve been saying about?

  6. Mr_Meowgi says:

There has been a female protagonist in the Assassins creed franchise before, I forget the name of the game she was in. She had a chapter or two in black flag and her own ps vita/ ps3 game though. @Adam Kuhn

  7. dwinkz49 says:

can’t do anything more with black flag… read AC Forsaken, that’ll give you everything you’re gonna get about Edward Kenway, and the rest of the Kenway family, just a shame they didnt do Forsaken as the game, GTA style, as Haytham starting when he’s 8 years old growing up a templar, then once he gets to america you could switch between haytham and connors story…

  8. Karman says:

How about they round out the story of Black Flag first? Way too many loose ends for my taste.

  9. Robert says:

Well there was a female protagonist in Liberation

  10. Wally says:

Not exactly possible as the Eiffel Tower was built as the entrance to the 1889 World’s fair, and the French revolution happened between 1789 and 1799… About 100 years too early.

  11. Philip Rau says:

Imagine the obligatory leap of faith off of the Eiffel Tower.

  12. Adam Kuhn says:

    Still no female protagonist.
