Remote-Controlled Flying Goth is the Stuff of Nightmares

Grab your Manic Panic and your guy-liner and prepare yourselves. It’s the beginning of the end of days. Okay, maybe it just feels like it. It’s just that, like any former goth, seeing some of the things you drew in very, very black pen in the inside of your math book come to life is a bit disturbing.

Otto Dieffenbach, builder of self-described IFOs or Identifiable Flying Objects, has created a flying goth. You read the correctly. It’s sort of like The Flying Nun but with really pale skin and a disdain for society. This upsettingly life-like replica of Bjørn Alexander Brem, the lead singer of an Osl0-based band Gothminister, can be flown through the air by remote control.

Fake Bjørn weighs four-and-a-half pounds and is made mostly of polystyrene. Not only can he fly over your head, inducing Robert Smith nightmares, he can also hover in small spaces. In the video notes, Dieffenbach, author of the next few evenings’ high school flashbacks, calls him his “3D Hover Flyguy.”

Dieffenbach makes less upsetting creations, as you can see on his website Fly Guy Promotions. He’s even got Snoopy as the WWI Flying Ace on his Sopwith Camel (a.k.a. his dog house). Check out the promotional video below to see his versions of a flying witch on a broom, the American flag, Iron Man, Harry Potter, R2-D2 and more. According to his YouTube page, Dieffenbach has always had a passion for flying and tech. He started designing remote controlled planes at twelve-years-old and graduated from the USAF Academy and the Air Force Test Pilot School.

Goth Hoverguy came out of a three-stage development process, starting with “Box Guy,” a rough version, and then fake Bjørn himself, complete with white face and a Sephora’s worth of eyeliner. What, no black wings? Okay, this is actually really cool. It’s just–those flappy legs are freaky! Considering the fact that a large portion of the video is Hot Topic guy Fake Bjørn flying along to the actual Gothminister video, it’s likely that fans will see this flying over a concert in the future.
