Last summer, Rebecca Ferguson had a breakout performance in Mission: Impossible â Rogue Nation as MI6 agent Ilsa Faust. And for the first time in the history of the Mission: Impossible film franchise, the leading lady will have a major role in the sequel.
Ferguson has reportedly signed on for Mission: Impossible 6, which may begin filming next summer. Tom Cruise is already on board the sequel for his sixth appearance as Ethan Hunt. Last week, Christopher McQuarrie confirmed that he will once again write and direct Mission: Impossible 6, making him the first director to return as well.
In Mission: Impossible â Rogue Nation, Ilsa Faust was deep undercover within the Syndicate when she first encountered Ethan Hunt. They were allies throughout the film, barring the occasional double cross. By the end of the story, they parted on good terms. It remains to be seen what will draw Ilsa and Ethan back together for the sequel.
Earlier this fall, Ferguson was one of the finalists for the female lead in the Gambit movie. And while she didnât get that role, she was cast in the upcoming films Girl on the Train, Florence Foster Jenkins, and The Snowman opposite Michael Fassbender.
Itâs likely that Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, and Jeremy Renner will also be back for Mission: Impossible 6, and the conclusion of Rogue Nation appeared to leave the door open for Alec Baldwin to return as well. There isnât currently a release day set for Mission: Impossible 6, but Mission: Impossible â Rogue Nation will hit Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, December 15.
