REAL FAKE HISTORY Revisits GAME OF THRONES’ Battle of Castle Black

The Battle of Castle Black was a turning point for the HBO series Game of Thrones. For Jon Snow (Kit Harington), it was a chance to redeem himself in the eyes of his Night’s Watch brothers by demonstrating his bravery in the face of an overwhelming assault by Mance Rayder’s Wildling army.

Snow’s heroic feats in the battle paved the way for his ascension to Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. Although in retrospect, that was perhaps not the wisest career move for the Bastard of Winterfell.

The third episode of Machinima’s Real Fake History has turned its satirical eye towards The Battle of Castle Black. Using a mockumentary approach, Real Fake History reveals that at least two of the giants in Mance Rayder’s army were tricked into fighting under false pretenses. Actor Dave Mattey stars in the video as the giant Bu Won Dun Bu Way. You may recognize Mattey from his memorable appearance in Hancock, or his more recent role in Better Call Saul.

For the most part, Real Fake History gets the details right about Ser Janos Slynt (Dominic Carter), but we question the accuracy of its comments about Ser Alliser Thorne (Owen Teale). If Ser Alliser had truly “wanted to believe Jon Snow” as the video claims, he would have sealed the tunnels leading into Castle Black as Jon suggested!

Tony Janning wrote and directed this episode of Real Fake History, with narration from Phil Morris (Seinfeld, Smallville). Upcoming episodes of Real Fake History will feature Mike Tyson’s Punch Out, The Avengers, The Walking Dead, Pacific Rim, Starcraft 2, Starship Troopers, and The Dark Knight Rises.
