It’s almost a wonder it took LEGO as long as it did to make an official big screen movie (still one of the best of the year, by the way) considering how people have been making stop-motion movies out of the versatile building blocks for years. One of the best to do this is CBL Animation, who has made over 50 videos of constructed coolness over the past 3 years. Now, they’ve set their sights on space and beyond the unknown with their exact, shot-for-shot reconstruction of the trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar.
I’m not sure what’s more impressive: getting the movement right on the rotating spacecraft or that LEGO cornfields can look semi-realistic. And time is definitely a brick-like circle in LEGO Matthew McConaughey’s case, but any time I see a minifig looking like that, I always assume it’s Emmett from The LEGO Movie doing a spot-on impersonation.
For those of you demanding a comparison, how about a comparison? CBL has gone ahead and done a side-by-side (really hop-on-pop) look at both trailers so you can see just how thorough the level of detail is in the LEGO version. LEGO Michael Caine could be a the new toy craze for Christmas.
Interstellar, as you saw in the different trailers, will be released in November and will be full of awe and wonderment, we have no doubt.
And, just because we like the funny, here’s a much earlier, and not screen-accurate, take on another Christopher Nolan movie, The Dark Knight Rises, CBL did out of LEGO. Can’t keep Batman down no matter who breaks his back.
