Ray Harryhausen Documentary, Movies Airing On Sony Movie Channel in April

Here’s a heads-up for something interesting coming up on TV in a few weeks for those of you who get Sony Movie Channel: It’s doing a month of Ray Harryhausen movie airings, kicking off with the U.S. television premiere of the documentary Ray Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan. If you’re into Harryhausen’s seminal stop-motion and effects work, this is something you’ll want to see.

The documentary is airing on Wednesday, April 3rd at 8e/7c/5p (with repeats on April 7h, 24th, and 28th) and is not yet available on DVD, so this is where you’ll get to see it. It includes interviews and tributes from filmmakers and fans of Harryhausen, including Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Steven Spielberg, Guillermo del Toro, Joe Dante, Tim Burton, John Landis, Robert Zemeckis, and Terry Gilliam, plus the late Ray Bradbury and more.

So, yeah. And the channel will also air 10 Harryhausen movies on Wednesdays and Sundays in April, including Jason and the Argonauts on April 17th and 28th. They’ll have the whole schedule at their website, but the movies will also be available throughout April through Sony Movie Channel’s Video on Demand and online via Sony Music Channel Everywhere.

The biggest question is whether you get the channel — it’s on DirecTV channel 563, Dish Network channel 386, and AT&T U-Verse channel 1791. I don’t think any other major cable systems carry it, but check your local system to make sure.
