Quentin Tarantino Shelving THE HATEFUL EIGHT After Script Leak

Quentin Tarantino is not a happy camper, so much so that he’s decided to put directing The Hateful Eight on the back burner indefinitely. Deadline reports that Tarantino was very upset after giving his script to a small group of actors, only to have someone from within that group compromise the script’s confidentiality by sharing it.

“I’m very, very depressed,” said Tarantino. “I finished a script, a first draft, and I didn’t mean to shoot it until next winter, a year from now. I gave it to six people, and apparently it’s gotten out today.” Aw, man, you can’t help but feel sorry for the guy, especially considering how passionate he is about his films.

While the plan now is to put The Hateful Eight on the back burner, that’s only in regard to the big screen. Tarantino instead has decided turn the script into a novel, publish it, and then revisit the idea of taking it to the big screen within the next five years. This actually may turn out to be a great idea, because if the book is as good as Tarantino’s films normally are, he’ll have an even greater following leading up to the release of the movie.

As far as the person responsible for leaking the script, right now it’s a game of Clue figuring out who’s to blame. Tarantino claims he gave the script out to six people, including Tim Roth (whom he knows for sure didn’t do it), Michael Madsen, and Bruce Dern. He also allowed Django Unchained producer Reggie Hudlin view the script and felt betrayed after later learning that Hudlin allowed his agent to come to his house and look through it. But since the agent didn’t end up with the script, Hudlin is not being pegged as the leak offender, either.

Overall, this is all one big clusterfuck of bittersweet confusion. I say bittersweet, because though it’s a bummer that we won’t be getting The Hateful Eight on the big screen (and I mean a total bummer), at least we can expect a good novel out of this unfortunate debacle. I just hope whatever Tarantino decides to do next, he gets ol’ Bruce Dern involved in the project some how.

LOL,, but they got Dennis Hopper (Glory Stompers,,Easy Rider) to ride free once again, Dennis died months after the movie!!!
Fast forward,,, Now Quinton gets the vision to do a western bringing back the Numero uno bad guy BRUCE DERN,,, the original ,Loser from wild angels,, escaped from prison to confront the Duke,,, Bring him back to saddle up ,,one more time,, with Michael madsen on the scene,,, and now your going to tell me that reggie hudlin(nobody) took the script home and invited a houseful of idgets to have a party with the script>>>> WTF?????

  2. da candyman says:

I just love the irony in him showing 6 people, him being 7 and the agent who read the script making 8. The Hateful Eight, you say?
    … hmmmmm….

  7. LS says:

possible that one of them left it out in their house. Tim Roth has teenage boys, Madsen has teenage boys, and that’s leaving out anyone who might be helping around the house.

  8. TerriDactyl says:

Denise, grow up. You’re obviously lacking any common sense to realize this is not only his livelihood but artistic work. You spend months, maybe years, developing a script only to have it spoiled and ultimately betrayed by a confidant.

  9. Denise says:

Oh grow up…its just a stupid movie for heavens sake… he acts like its the of the world…

  10. Melton Cartes says:

Well at least it wasn’t anything important.

  11. Freevo says:

This is why this is a different situation from the Django script leak:

“I am not talking out of both sides of my mouth,” Tarantino explained, “because I do like the fact that everyone eventually posts it, gets it and reviews it on the net. Frankly, I wouldn’t want it any other way. I like the fact that people like my sh*t, and that they go out of their way to find it and read it. But I gave it to six motherf**king people!”

    Betrayal’s a mean motherfrakker.

  12. Edward Harrell says:

Its a shame people are so selfish and self centered .to do this to him .you cant trust anyone but yourself anymore .theres always someone fucking shit up for everyone .hope he finds out and never ever lets that person work for him ever again .

  13. Chirebu says:

This is why we can’t have nice things…

  14. Ted says:

    Madsen.

Or possibly Christoph Waltz, but I think that might break my heart.

  15. cindy says:

Smells like a publicity game to me. :/

  16. mobber says:

Django’s script was leaked a year before it came out, didn’t stop him then… why now?

  17. luckymustard says:

I can say I definitely didn’t do it because I know what I did or didn’t do. But I cannot definitely say that about anybody else, ’cause I don’t definitely know.

  18. jm5150 says:

this has Madsen written all over it

  19. Scottakaschot says:

I should have my fuckin’ head examined, going on a plan like this when I wasn’t 100%.

  20. Blake says:

I’m bummed somebody who Tarantino wanted to work with leaked his script. Granted, I think Tarantino is a madman, but he makes excellent films, so I’m upset that he may have shelved “The Hateful Eight” as a film. and I have to read his work like a caveman.
