Can you put a price tag on fulfilling your nerd dreams? One such Star Wars fan did just that last week, when the original gold bikini worn by Princess Leia as Jabba The Hutt’s slave sold for $96,000 at auction.
Carrie Fisher’s infamous costume from Stars Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, including the gold bikini, collar, and even some of the chain links, opened at $80,000, before selling at the winning price to the auction house Profiles in History, who specialize in movie memorabilia. Leia’s “Slave costume†is unquestionably one of the most iconic in movie history.
If that seems like a high price for a little bit of cloth and metal, it was nothing compared to the winning bid of $450,000 (over an original opening price of $200,000) for another memorable Princess Leia item: a miniature of the Tantive IV Blockade Runner. It’s the ship that proved you should probably stop to pick up an escaped pod even if it has no human life forms, since, you know, robots and computers can carry information too.
As for the slave bikini buyer, the winner asked to remain anonymous, but we think we have a pretty good idea of who it may have been:
