Let’s imagine a legendary party at Prince’s Paisley Park compound in Minnesota for a moment. The massive home and studio, with its walls adorned by platinum records, and its carpets and furniture decked out with Love Symbols. A smattering of A-list celebrities, bodyguards, and groupies, and of course, the whole place drenched in plenty of purple. As for the music however, we don’t have to stretch our imaginations too far, because we now have a playlist that comes straight from the mind and soul of the Purple One himself.
And ladies and gentleman, it is funky.
It turns out that back in 2013, when Prince played a brief, yet pivotal role on Fox’s New Girl (he helped to bring Jess and Nick together after lots of waffles and ping pong), he did more than just nail his cameo. In fact, along with singing a bumpin’ duet with Zooey Deschanel, he also gave the crew one of his own party playlists to help them understand how he likes to get down when he throws a bash.
Steve Welch, an editor on the television series, was kind enough to share this playlist with the world on Facebook following Prince’s death, and you can check out the track list in full below:
YES! Prince’s very own suggested house party playlist.https://t.co/9Mqm5nAT1Q pic.twitter.com/FZorTuQ67X

The 24-song mix is a potpourri of funk, blues, and soul, and features at least a handful of familiar classics like “Higher Ground” by Stevie Wonder, “I’ll Be Around” by the Spinners, and the oh-so-bassy “Fire” by the Ohio Players. But even though the playlist is packed with plenty of jam, it still fades out with Aretha Franklin’s heavy, and supremely heartfelt, “The Thrill is Gone.” Because even Prince’s friends probably needed the occasional hint when it was time to leave the party…
And we’ll give you a hint too: Use the comments section below to let us know what you think about this Prince-made playlist!
