Just as he said it would, Prince’s new Tidal exclusive album dropped this past weekend, titled HitNRun Phase One. The new album from the Purple One features eleven different tracks, and includes collaborations from artists and Prince protégés like Rita Ora, Lianne La Havas, Judith Hill, and Curly Fryz (who, by the way, has the very best name. I wouldn’t be surprised if His Royal Badness gave it to her, as he likes to name his protégés. Carmen Electra and Vanity weren’t born with those name you know.)
Recently, Prince debuted his new song “Hardrocklover” via SoundCloud, which he has now included on HitNRun, and also “Fallinlove2nite” which appeared on an episode of The New Girl last year that Prince guest-starred in. Also included on the album is a newer version of “This Could B Us”, the song that was inspired by the internet meme that was itself inspired by Prince and Appolonia in the movie Purple Rain. That right there is the purple snake eating its purple tail.
In addition to HitNRun Phase One, Prince is also promising to release a new track every week for Tidal subscribers, called “The Purple Pick of the Week,” a mix of new tracks along with rarities and other exclusives from his huge vault of unreleased music.
The first Purple Pick of the Week is “Stare”, a song  that showed up on Spotify recently and shocked everyone since Prince had publicly dissed Spotify in the press not long before that. Tidal will also be the exclusive home of Prince’s immense catalog, except for some odd omissions, like Diamonds and Pearls, one of Princes biggest hit albums, and the underrated The Gold Experience, as well as a few other mysterious absences.Â
If you’re a Tidal subscriber, you can check out HitNRun Phase One right now by clicking here, or you can sign up for the thirty day free trail and do it that way.
