Prince Once Fired Questlove For FINDING NEMO

In addition to being the spiritual leader of The Roots, drummer Questlove is a prolific DJ, often making time for gigs when his The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon obligations allow. On one such occasion, Prince called on the owner of late night’s most famous afro to DJ at an event for him. Prince only wants the best for his parties, so that makes sense, but he apparently realized that Questlove’s best wasn’t good enough:

Questlove’s best wasn’t even as good as a Finding Nemo DVD. Sure, Finding Nemo has earned nearly a billion dollars and is the best-selling DVD of all time, and the heartwarming tale of the lengths a father will go to to keep his family together is classic Pixar… but it’s Questlove, one of the most knowledgeable figures in the music industry who can dig into the furthest reaches of his mind to compile a killer setlist. He works on his DJ sets for hours, taking into account the type of people who will be there, the venue, the occasion and other factors that may seem inconsequential to non-music geniuses.

And yet, it seemed that Finding Nemo was more suitable for whatever the occasion was. Questlove should have known.

This also isn’t the only time that Prince has brought one of Questlove’s DJ gigs to a premature end. He was scheduled to DJ the afterparty of the 40th anniversary special of Saturday Night Live earlier this year, but as Fallon tells it, the open-mic portion of the evening got a bit out of control and culminated in Prince absolutely bringing the house down.
