Filmmakers Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez have been friends for twenty years, even before they began collaborating on their 1996 crime-horror thriller From Dusk Till Dawn, the basis for From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series — the flagship of Rodriguez’s El Rey Network, launched early this year. Among El Rey’s other offerings (which include the espionage series Matador) is the hour-long El Rey Network Presents: The Director’s Chair. Hosted by Rodriguez, each installment features one of his favorite filmmakers, including, thus far, influential horror maestro John Carpenter and acclaimed dark fantasist Guillermo del Toro.
But this week’s episode, the first of a two-parter, promises to be extra special, since it features Tarantino himself in conversation with Rodriguez. Catch a glimpse below at the candid conversation between the two men, in which Tarantino discusses his approach to playing with the expectations of film audiences…
Volume 1 of El Rey Network Presents: The Director’s Chair with Quentin Tarantino airs tonight at 9pm ET/PT. Volume 2 will follow in two weeks, on Wednesday, August 27, 9 PM ET/PT. El Rey promises us that the chat between Tarantino and Rodriguez “explores Tarantino’s film career through the lens of their twenty-year friendship, using never-before-seen personal footage to discuss topics from screenwriting and camera placement to spaghetti westerns and kung fu.” Who knows — maybe Tarantino will use the occasion to share a little of what he has planned for his upcoming western The Hateful Eight.
