President Snow Has Another Message for Panem in a Teaser for THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 1

Citizens of Panem: President Snow has mandatory viewing for you. The promotions for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 continue with propaganda-esque announcements from the President as he tries to regain his control over the Districts and stop a full-blown rebellion. The last communication from the creepiest and most chilling President of them all was accentuated by the presence of Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), and the second address shows that the Capitol has another captive.

Both Peeta and Johanna Mason (Jena Malone) stand by President Snow’s side, and they are flanked by a group of intimidating Peacekeepers. President Snow may speak about unity and how Panem is speaking with one voice, but the presence of his military force communicates his ultimate goal of total control. The Capitol and the Districts don’t work together as one, but Snow wants to reinforce that illusion.

But, there’s hope. President’s Snow message gets cut off by Beetee (Jeffrey Wright), and he inserts an important piece of news from District 13: the Mockingjay lives. I got goose bumps, and I’m pretty sure it had nothing to do with my overly air-conditioned environment.

This approach to promoting the Mockingjay film is so much more engaging than teasers or trailers showing footage from the movie. We’ll inevitably get those, but I couldn’t ask for a better lead-in. While the messages from District 13 will presumably infect the other Districts with a desire to fight back, they’ll also get viewers more excited about seeing the Capitol overthrown. Bring. It. On.

What are your thoughts on this marketing approach? Let us know in the comments.

  1. I think this is important as there is so much propaganda in the books. This helps fill in the story and makes all the fans of the books happy!

  2. Emily Rauch says:

I think it’s a great way to incorporate the Capital TV messages from the book that are important but may take up too much time in a movie. it also gives background info for people who haven’t read the books as to what’s going on in between Catching Fire and Mocking Jay.
