Premiere: Portland Up-and-Comers Divers Get Sweaty in Their Video for ‘Wild Calling’

Divers, a young band from Portland, Oregon, describes themselves thusly: “We play dynamic, sweaty music. The indie rockers say we are a punk band. The punk rockers are suspicious that we might be an indie band.” The skepticism of the punk rockers might be justified, although punk-leaning indie groups like The Walkmen and Against Me! are fair benchmarks against which to measure Divers, who are similarly propulsive and energetic despite having only one album under their belt–Hello Hello, which was released in February and is available to stream, download and buy on vinyl via Bandcamp.

Today, we are happy to premiere Divers’ new music video for “Wild Calling”, which you can watch above. The clip was directed by Whitey McConnaughy, who has also helmed videos for Red Fang, Iron Reagan, and the Thermals. He said of the clip:

“Divers have a great timeless stripped-down gritty quality about them, they sound like a band that could have come out of the early 80’s or the 90’s or even 2015, so I figured I should do a video that also had a similar stripped down gritty quality to it. Plus we had zero budget, so this aesthetic seemed only logical.”

The band–which consists of Harrison Rapp (guitar and vocals), Seth Rapp (guitar), James Deegan (bass), and Colby Hulsey (drums)–has a few West Coast concerts coming up over the next week, so find their schedule below and make Divers a part of your extended weekend.
